I study cities, and things that happen and exist within urban contexts. I am currently writing a dissertation on the city of São Paulo during its ‘modern transition.’ My research is focused on unraveling the engendering of the city’s informal, at times illegal, socio-economic spheres, through the gaze of material culture. My work also touches on transnational flows, histories of crime, and processes of urbanization. More broadly, I’ve been trained as a Latin Americanist, who dabbles in Economic History and the Digital Humanities. You can find me at hannamn@uchicago.edu.
